Abstract Submission Guidelines

These are the rules for the submission of papers to be evaluated by the Congress Scientific Committee for acceptance. Papers shall be sent only through the official website (see here); no other channels will be accepted. The Scientific Committee in turn will appoint a five-member Selection Committee in charge of selecting the papers.

From all the papers accepted for presentation, the Selection Committee will select 3 (three) Outstanding Papers, on the grounds of their relevance, originality, methodology and conclusions. In recognition, they will be awarded a digital Diploma and one complimentary registration to the next Pan-American Congress of Gastronterology per paper. The authors of a paper thus selected will agree on who will enjoy it, and kindly provide the beneficiary’s name to the OPGE Secretariat (secretaria@opge.org).

GENERAL INFORMATION

The deadline for submission of abstracts is May 10, 2021, at 23:59.

Notifications of acceptance of papers will be e-mailed by May 20, 2021.

The presenter of each paper must be registered at the Congress and will be allowed to pay up to and including June 14, 2021. If the author selects any form of payment other than PAYPAL, he/she will be able to complete the registration and pay later.

Only one certificate will be issued per paper submitted.

Papers may be submitted in Spanish, Portuguese and/or English.

Authors will be listed in the same order as entered. Please include: First Surname, First Name, Institution, City, Country, and e-mail address. Include the name of the speaker or presenter.

The author responsible for submitting the paper undertakes to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the full content of the paper and that all relevant ethical and legal standards have been met.

Papers may be submitted in different categories: original papers, clinical cases, or videos.

No papers previously published or presented at other congresses will be accepted.

Although the authors will be able to express the desired form of presentation, the Scientific Committee will define the final format of the original papers (oral or poster). Clinical cases will be presented as posters.

The final decision of the Scientific Committee and Selection Committee may not be appealed and will be considered final.

SUBMISSION METHOD

1. The person responsible for the paper must create their user profile or complete the registration for the submission of the abstract (not the payment), completing all the fields requested.
2. The author will then receive an automatic e-mail confirming receipt of the abstract; if that confirmation fails to arrive, the author should check the "spam" folder or directly contact sped2021@grupoelis.com.uy, where he/she will be assisted in a personalized manner).
3. All papers must comply with the same conditions applicable to scientific communications. In the case of videos, in addition to the corresponding abstract, the author must send the video in its final format (see below).

Instructions for authors of Papers.

a. General provisions

1. Select the appropriate category and modality of presentation.
2. Area by specialty: Gastroenterology - Hepatology or Digestive Endoscopy.
3. Thematic area: choose one of the options in this section.
4. Disclosures for conflicts of interest and/or funding must be declared by filling in the corresponding boxes.

b. General format of the scientific paper abstract

1. The title should be clear, concise, and brief. Avoid any non-standard abbreviations or trademarks.
2. List of authors; do not mention academic degrees.
3. Structure: Introduction, objectives, material and methods, results, and conclusions. Final message with key points and main "take-home" messages.
4. Content: Write in Spanish, Portuguese, or English. Reduce the use of abbreviations to a minimum. Key words may be included.
5. The abstract should fit in a certain space. The TITLE should not exceed 200 characters and the rest of the SUMMARY 3000 characters, spaces included. If the author wishes to add a table and/or image, everything should fit INSIDE the box. Each table or image will be counted as 10 characters.
If the paper does not respect these limits, the system will reject it until it does.
From the moment the user is created, until the entry of the abstract is completed, the paper can be left OPEN in the system, so the author can alter it. Once the process is FINISHED, no changes will be possible.
No changes will be allowed once the abstract has been submitted.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PRESENTATION OF ACCEPTED PAPERS

1) ORIGINAL PAPERS. The presentations may be ORAL or POSTER.

ORAL PRESENTATION

1. The presentation must be recorded, and the video uploaded in a link that will be available in due time; the author may appear in the recording. Presentations should be in PowerPoint, including tables, videos, or photographs.
2. The author will be given 8 minutes to present it.
3. Accepted formats: .mp4, .wmv or .mov. The .avi format will not be accepted.
4. The file shall not exceed 18 MB.
5. The presentation will be available on demand in the ORAL PRESENTATIONS section online throughout the congress and while the platform is operational.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

1. The author must develop the poster respecting the official format (which will be sent upon acceptance of the poster) and record an audio presenting the poster. Both files must be uploaded in a link that will be indicated in due time.
2. Accepted format: .mp3 for the audio and .pdf for the poster.
3. The file shall not exceed 3 MB.
4. The author will be allowed 5 minutes to present it.
5. The poster and audio will be available on demand in the POSTERS section online throughout the congress and while the platform is operational.

2) CLINICAL CASES will be presented as POSTER.

1. The author may present one clinical case or a set of cases considered of interest on the grounds of rarity, or challenges in the diagnosis or management (work-up or therapy).
2. It should include Introduction, description and discussion, and the key issues of the case(s), diagnostic challenges, therapeutic interventions, prognosis. We suggest including a final message with the key learning(s).
3. Clinical cases are presented only as posters (see above).
The clinical cases will be available on demand in the POSTERS section online throughout the congress and while the platform is operational.

3) VIDEOS

The videos should show cases of scientific interest and may or may not show endoscopic procedures. In addition to the ethical principles, which will be enforced sine qua non, the authors must consider the scientific and technical requirements below:

1. Complete the form following the instructions for abstracts above and upload the video file in the field included for that purpose.
2. Record and upload the presentation with the link that will be provided in due course. The video may include the author presenting the video; the presentation may include PowerPoint slides analysing the case, with its discussion and conclusions.
3. The time shall not exceed 6 minutes for the video and 8 minutes for the presentation.
4. Accepted formats: .mp4, .wmv or .mov. The .avi format will not be accepted.
5. The file shall not exceed 18 MB.
The video will be available on demand in the POSTERS section online throughout the congress and while the platform is operational.

EVALUATION OF PAPERS

The original papers, clinical cases and videos accepted will be evaluated by the Scientific Selection Committee, considering the following: originality, timeliness, presentation, methodology, interest of the case(s) reported, clinical reasoning, technical quality of the video, scientific significance, in accordance with the category presented.
